Describe the transmission before choosing software
The registration, gearbox type and current engine calibration help establish the starting point. Different control units and software versions require different support. A DSG badge or automatic selector alone is not a compatibility check.
If the engine is already remapped, include its history and fitted hardware. Where available, bring the previous work record and measured results so the workshop can consider the engine and transmission together.
Explain a symptom rather than requesting an aggressive shift
Hesitation, clutch slip, shudder or a warning message should be included in the enquiry. Describe whether the behaviour happens from cold, after a longer journey or in a particular drive mode. Servicing and any recent repairs are relevant too.
Changing a calibration cannot repair worn components or replace correct servicing. We discuss the condition and appropriate investigation before recommending software changes for a gearbox showing symptoms.
Match the proposed work to the engine
On supported vehicles, transmission calibration may address shift scheduling, torque coordination and response. The useful outcome depends on the engine configuration, the gearbox and how the car is driven. Existing protection strategies and mechanical limits remain part of that assessment.
Use engine tuning for a standard-car enquiry or custom tuning when the car has substantial hardware changes. Include both ECU and TCU work in the same brief if both are being considered.
Plan the Llandow appointment
Caerphilly Remaps workshop appointments take place at Llandow, CF71 7PB. Send the vehicle details and gearbox history so the proposed work and support can be confirmed before travelling.
